I’ve been blogging on and off since 2003, and I’ve been writing for a living since 2004. Yet I’m not one to claim that writing is my passion. Writing has always been a major part of my life and is my career. So while I love what I’m doing, more often than not I have to force myself to type articles down or put my thoughts into words for thousands to read. Luckily, I’m getting paid for it, but this is also the reason why I haven’t kept blogging regularly in the past years. Since I was writing all the time anyways, I could easily neglect blogging in my spare time.
In the past months it became clear to me that I need to let out my personal side again.
As a tech reporter, I’m mostly known for covering startups and Silicon Valley. When I’m off work, I don’t read about startup guys though. I spend hours researching the best ways for vitamin A to soak into my skin, reading up on the background of the song “Band On The Run” and trying to find out what happened to the guy who wrote the piano part of Eric Clapton’s “Layla” (spoiler: it’s a really disgusting story). Out in public, people recognize me as press person. A while ago, I attended a female investors conference just out of pure curiosity. Because when I’m 50, I want to have successfully invested in other businesses. Still, people come up to me and pitch me their stories because I’m a reporter. It’s annoying, because a lot of the times, I’m just a business woman trying to figure things out. Not a journalist you need to impress with your success story.
Rethink:Restyle is my new way of letting my personal self shine through
…while informing my readers about new products, innovations, and sharing my advice. My life has changed drastically in the last few years. After being a deputy editor-in-chief, I decided to move to San Francisco and work as a self-employed correspondent. In 2014, I moved back to Europe, now splitting my time between two places in Austria: Vienna and the Salzkammergut region. Aside from living in two places and being a freelance journalist, traveling to the US on a regular basis defines my lifestyle a lot. I pride myself to be an efficient traveler and I’m always amused when I read “What’s in my travel bag” blogs, because these posts are not realistic for someone who is on long-haul flights for work a lot.
With this blog, I want to reach people like myself:
Career-driven individuals who are as much interested in beauty and fashion as they are in the stock market and making smart shopping decisions. People who like new tech but don’t want to waste money on unnecessary gadgets.
What does that mean for this blog? On Rethink:Restyle you’ll find reviews of workouts, beauty products and food places around the US and Europe. You’ll also find my style inspirations, travel hacks, money advice, business stuff and news about tech. And I’ll share my personal stories about my life as a journalist, entrepreneur and music lover.
Please let me know in the comments if you have any questions or topics that you want me to cover on Rethink:Restyle!
